ted with award and member of local VFW

Ted Gehring, St. Francis Middle School 6th grade social studies teacher, was named the Isanti VFW Post 2735 and Regional District 7 Middle School Citizenship Teacher of the Year. He was honored at banquets in December for his exceptional work in the area of civics/social studies.

“I would like to thank VFW Post 2735 and the District 7 VFW for supporting teachers and for supporting civics education,” Gehring said. “It was super cool to attend the local awards night and be recognized the same night as a former student, Lincoln Meyer, who received a 2nd Place Award for his Voice of Democracy audio essay.”

The district honor made him eligible for the state award, which was announced in January.

“I was super honored to be in the consideration for the state award,” Gehring said. “I know many people may associate their local VFW as just a social gathering location for Veterans, but your local post does so much more. My local Post 2735 gave over $300,000 back to the community in charitable giving last year. Each local steps up in their community in ways that often go overlooked and unnoticed. Your local VFW supports our schools, our communities, and those in need.”
